I am going to take a small detour from opioids and discuss Taurine today. Taurine is in spotlight for its beneficial effects for health and longevity.
Although the human studies are lacking, the animal studies show the following benefits:

Improved healthspan: Taurine appears to improve various health markers associated with aging, such as reducing inflammation, protecting against cellular damage, and boosting mitochondrial function.
Cognitive benefits: Animal studies suggest taurine may improve memory, learning, and protect against age-related cognitive decline.
Diabetes and obesity: Higher taurine levels are linked to lower risk of these conditions, with supplementation showing potential improvements in some studies.

As a dog owner, many, Taurine is absolutely critical to maintain their heart function. Veterinarians found dogs had been dying of heart failure (swollen heart) way too soon in life.
Found the lack of Taurine in dry food was the cause.
Veterinary medicine now looks for this and advise owners to make sure it is any food the dogs eat.
We add Sardines periodically. High in Taurine.
