Cod liver oil is used as a source of omega-3, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Studies have shown that it is better anti-inflammatory than plain omega-3 supplements. However, there is a fear of hypervitaminosis A (vitamin A toxicity.) Here is an article I have written about the chances of vitamin A toxicity and cod liver oil consumption. Summary is that adults have to consume 100x more than recommended dose of cod liver oil and children have to consume more than 20x the daily recommended dose of cod liver oil to have acute toxicity.
