Dear Kool Beens,
Yesterday we discussed how the omega-6 and Arachidonic Acid pathway works. We discussed cyclooxygenase enzymes. Lipoxygenase and CYP450 will be discussed in the coming talks.
We also discussed the following drugs:
1. Aspirin, why is cardioprotective in low dose and why does it not hurt the stomach lining as much as ibuprofen. Similarly, why aspirin has a lower risk of cardiovascular events.
2. Ibuprofen, Naproxen: their difference from aspirin. Why they tend to hurt stomach lining a little more than aspirin and why there is the cardiovascular and renal issues that can occur at high doses.
3. We also discussed why aspirin reduces the clotting tendency.
Next lecture on Tuesday and Wednesday of the next week. Become a substack member, or patreon, or drbeen.com member to get access to these live talks and their recordings on drbeen.com (Tuesday talks are recorded.)
